Free the Children is an organization that started in 1995, all with one child with a voice for the others' who didn't have one. Craig Kielburger, had a dream, now he's built over 500 schools all over the world. But he isn't alone. There's over 60 company's with him, fighting to meet his goal of a free world for everyone, especially the children. I'm here to write about one of the heart-warming companies that help thousands of children.

Me to We teaches more than 50,000 everyday in the 500 schools they've helped build in patnership with Free the Children. The world's largest organization of children helping children, Me to We is based in Toronto, Ontario, but not far from helping not only our own kids' here in Canada, but also children all over the world.

Me to We has been working with Free the Children for years and each of their philosophy is set to helping the exposure of children to unjustified labour, no education, and other awful aspects of the world to children. "Bestfriends" of the charity world, Me to We and Free the Children have helped each other out in many situations they've been through. Me to We helps Free the Children through support of administrative expenses, which means that Me to We keeps Free the Children trucking, moving, and held down in a secure job.

Over the last year alone, Me to We has donated over $1 million dollars to Free the Children, both in-kind contributions and cash. This means that an estimated $400,000.00 came souly from cash donations. The in-kind contributions have all been made from the volunteer staff who've spent thousands of hours helping Free the Children. These volunterr staff members have all done something of great importance be it training, manning workshops, consulting to Free the Children projects, and many more jobs. Free the Children wouldn't have been as strong-willed or as successful as they are today, if it wasn't for their friends Me to We.

    Her Turn

"Her Turn" is a drama set in early 1996, Las Vegas, Nevada. This 102 minute-running adventure is about a 22 year old trying to make it big, but never trying hard enough. She's been in count-less commercials, over twenty plays, and three short movies. No one can remember her name, but her eyes are always on people's minds. Carrie Saunders has been through hell and back, but always sees the glass half-full. The water may not be the cleanest, but it'll always be there. She hasn't been called back for a lot of jobs due to the fact that she's diffcult to work with; she's severaly bi-polar and hasn't taken her medication in over two years.

Carrie has been trying harder then ever to make it big, until she meets Damien Neale. He is a hard-edge, scary man and only being 25, looks as if he's been through three World Wars. Damien has been through foster home to foster home all his life, and it's taken a toll on him. He sees the world as a place where no matter what, someone will kick you down. There's always someone better than you, and he's feels like he's met everyone better than him. Damien and Carrie meet outside of her apartment; Carrie on her way to the biggest play on the Strip, Damien busking on the side walk. Carrie asks how long he'd been playing the fiddle, Damien says for as long as he can remember. She can tell that he's been through a lot in his life, and almost pities Damien. They talk for a little while longer, but Carrie needs to get to her audition. Before she can leave with the last word, Damien asks for a date. Thinking to herself that he's so far the cleanest looking guy to ask her, she says yes.

As luck would have it, they were perfect for each other. Every other day, they would do their best to see one another. But as time goes on, she notices that he's become skinner, more anxious, and definatly more on-edge than ever. Carrie decides to pop over to his place, for the first time, as a surprise visit. To a shocking surprise, she finds him passed out, actually an OD, with a sryinge sticking out of his bare left arm. In a unexpected shock, she has no idea what to do. At first she tries to wake him up, but to no avial. She soon calls 911, telling the operater that she's found her boyfriend in his apartment and can't wake him up.

This fast paced drama will have you scared, heart-broken, but in the end, happier then when you first sat in your seat. So, grab a few tissues, a date, and free your time, because you'll be talking about this cinematic experience for a while.

Pinawa, is my hometown, and it has been for almost 12 years. Have you ever seen a deer? Are you obsessed with them? Then maybe you'd LOVE to come down to the perfect definition of a sleepy town to see our massive amount of deer. For tourists, the perfered pasttime is snapping pictures of our amazingly tame antlered friends. Although, these creatures aren't our only wildlife; we have fox, beavers, wolves, bobcats otters, geese, black bears, Great Gray owls, and most famously, cougars. Although there's only been a few sightings of our furry feline, she's a tourist favourite.

Pinawa, has an amazing education system thanks to the dedication of the School District of Whiteshell. Our education district is very VERY unique; we're the only division in Manitoba left. Most other schools combine their faculties together. For example, The Sunrise School Divison. They're a collection of schools, whereas our two schools are one division (F.W. Gilbert Elementary School and Pinawa Secondary School). The students at PSS are hardworking, respectful, honest, and trust-worthy. Just like the Division's mission, our students follow it to heart.

"To provide quality education in partnership with home and community to enable students to achieve
their individual potentials as responsible members of society."

Pinawa, may only have 1,500 average residents a year, but we are a town of heart-warming people. On May.17/10, our family-run business, Pinawa Motor Inn, was tragicly burnt down. The PMI had been running since 1968, being handled by many owners, but always in the caring hands of someone who wanted to make it better. On the morning of May.17/10, people scrambled to help keep control the blaze. Our volunteer Fire Department did everything that they could humanly do, but there was no calming it down. The PMI was lost. The saddest part of this story is that the brand new owners had just bought it five days before the fire. The couple poured their life savings into the building, only to have a $1.5-million disaster. There's always a silver-lining though! They're re-building this year, hopefully opening December.3/10. Everyone in Pinawa is respectfully excited. I know I am.

"New" Pinawa, was first delevoped in 1963 after Atomic Energy of Canada Limited built a research center for nuclear energy. "New" Pinawa was first built to be a camp-site for the employees and their families. Over time though, the camp-site became bigger and businesses began popping up, so very soon, Pinawa became a small town. The original employees that are alive are still living in most of their first Pinawa homes. The scienctists from AECL back in the 60's all still live in town, and because of the amount of pHDs each household has, Pinawa has a very large pHD-per-capita. This makes me proud to know my town is home to so many intellectual people and that they're the ones to made this place real.

Pinawa. My home. My place. My life.

    Come visit.

    You'll love it here.

    Let's Try This Again

    Sun, June 06, 2010 - 1:24PM 0 Comments

I'm writting again, and this time it'll be a LOT longer!

Boy, I never thought blogging would be so difficult!

But, I guess I'll tell everyone about the concert I'm hosting this Friday, June 11. It's at our highschool (PSS) and there's three wonderful local bands playing! Tinnitus, a city band that started up around our area, is playig last and giving away free stuff for the moshers! Inverted Serenity, our newest, heaviest, hard-core-iest (real word?), band in our midst is playing as well! Infact, the lead singer just so happens to be my bestfriend :)

Mesagra is playing first, and they're an up and coming band, now based in the city (Peg!). Starting in smalltown Whitemouth, they've played quite a few gigs, and hosted two of their own!

I'm selling pizza, pop, 50/50 tickets, and a door prize is up for grabs! I've been told quite a few people are coming, and living in such a small area (North Eastman) 40-50 people showing up is a HUGE amount!

I'm excited, nervous, and so happy that so many people are wanting to help :)

Oh, and 10,000,000 thanks to Dave Westdal for saving the concert! :D

    I'm out!

    Wow

    Thu, May 20, 2010 - 8:47PM 0 Comments

Wow, it's starting to finally hit me about this pageant.

In June, I'm having a concert of four local bands playing for four hours. I haven't started my sponsor letters yet, since life's been hectic with school, Driver's Ed, and my Dad flying from here to there.

Thank you so far to all my supports from Pinawa, Lac Du, Whitemouth, B-Town, and anywhere and everywhere else! You guys are what drives me :)
